Vehicle Design for Global Environmental conditions
Design and development of vehicles meeting global requirements of environmental and operational conditions has always posed challenges to engineers, vehicle may be required to work in temperature as low as -40 Deg. C or as High as 60 Deg. C. In addition to this, the terrain further aggravates the design challenge as vehicle may have to operate in snow-clad / high altitude area where coefficient of friction is drastically low, or same vehicle might have to work in desert where it may experience loss of traction due to sand dunes, or in waterlogged conditions, where there is risk of water entering in the vehicle systems and damaging it.
Considering all the environmental and operational conditions w.r.t potential failure modes the design of the vehicle must be Full-Proof for greater customer experience. This paper presents a perspective on typical problems encountered in design of different systems of vehicles under extreme environmental conditions and ways to overcome them.
